River Fishing

Clayoquot Sound is home to the largest wild steelhead population in the world. Resort guides know all the hot spots and when conditions are right the runs extend through to the end of June.

Fly fish for spring steelhead, fall salmon or cutthroat trout throughout the sound's extensive river system, but be sure to inquire in advance about water levels, hatches and approximately when specific species are expected through.

The Cypre, Megin and Tranquil rivers are the stuff of legend. Access drop-off points by boat, then walk or drive in.

Lake Fishing

Locals have long-favoured Megin and Pretty Girl lakes as bountiful sources of cutthroat trout. Access is by floatplane however, so transportation surcharges apply. Choose fly or spinning rods.

Fly Tying Clinics

New to the resort is the Fly Shack, a small studio where one or two guests plus instructor explore the age-old art of hand tying flies for fresh or salt water fishing.

Spend an hour or two in the morning preparing for an afternoon on the water, or create something special for favourite anglers back home.

Fly tying is enjoying a renaissance of sorts worldwide, but here at the Outpost is particularly popular with teens and grandparents.
