Winemaker Riccardo Tedeschi, together with his family, boast an almost 4-century long history in the wine business. Tedeschi Winery is renowned as one of Valpolicella’s iconic wineries. Riccardo earned a diploma in Oenology at the Conegliano Agronomic School in 1989 and learned the “Tedeschi style” from his father Lorenzo, a way of life which extends to involve its wines and is true to the region and local varieties.
Lorenzo’s style was born in the early 1960’s when he showed remarkable insight and vinified the grapes from the Monte Olmi vineyard separately, thus creating one of the very first single-vineyard wines of Valpolicella, a wine that has become the flagship of the Tedeschi estate.
Riccardo has developed modern production techniques while continuing to favour local grape varieties (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Croatina, Dindarella, Negrara, Oseleta, Troelina and very old clones of it) also in the La Fabriseria vineyard. His objective is always to obtain wines with body, bouquet and structure, but above all wines which are elegant and well-balanced. The company’s philosophy is founded on continuous innovation in order to promote quality, without departing from long standing traditions.
In April 2006, Riccardo, with his family, acquired 84 hectares of land situated within the Valpolicella DOC region between the communities of Tregnago and di Mezzane di Sotto. The purchase is the result of long and thorough research conducted by a pool of agronomists and geologists called upon by Riccardo to study the most promising terrain for the production of high-quality wine. The new property includes a building of monastic origin, the oldest portion of which stands on a hill that dominates the entire grounds, which include 53 hectares of forest and 2 hectares of olive trees.
Riccardo is responsible for sales in the international market. He is married to Nicoletta and has three children.
