Sustainability

A proud member of the BC Sustainable Tourism Collective www.sustainablebc.ca

Global Responsibility -- Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is located in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve Area, in one of the best intact examples of temperate rainforest left on Earth.

United Nations Mandated Governance -- The spirit of the Biosphere Reserve governs Resort operations and forms the backbone of all policies and sustainable development. The Resort is committed to exist in Clayoquot Sound in an entirely sensitive and environmentally sustainable manner.

The Resort employs local men and women, and, through various education-based naturalist and recreational offerings, contributes to the enhancement and global understanding of the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve Area.

Self-Sufficiency -- All aspects of Resort operations are low-impact and updated as technology allows. Comprehensive recycling governs food and beverage service, organic gardens reduce commercial dependency, and high efficiency wood furnaces create domestic hot water and heat hot tubs. Toilets compost waste materials into organic matter, and all marine and land adventures are non-intrusive and conservancy-driven.

Enduring Alliances -- Clayoquot Wilderness Resort works hand-in-hand with the Nuu-Chah-Nulth First Nation people, as well as local, regional and federal governments in developing sustainable, environmentally responsible development and environmental enhancement programs that benefit all.

Environmental Legacy Programs at the Resort include Salmon Stream Restoration, Bear Habitat mapping and wildlife studies and First Nations Programs.

Pacific Salmon Foundation -- To ensure that we keep the salmon coming back year after year Clayoquot Wilderness Resort has partnered with the Pacific Salmon Foundation. This non-for-profit organization has been around for around 25 years and is one of the main financial contributors to stewardships groups across British Columbia, focusing on sustaining wild Pacific salmon. Every year the Foundation gives financial support to community hatcheries and salmon habitat stewardship groups, which bring back fish for all of us to benefit from. Without the foundation, and all of our partners, we would not have salmon. Support is vital to ensure this resource continues for generations to come and is invaluable to our business.
