Glamping at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort

A wonderful article written by Notable Grey Goose Notable Places: Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. And of course, we love our Grey Goose here!

Another great blog post, this time by Inthralld. A great website for all things awesome!

Pinterest has been around for a little while now and with the invitation taken away, everyone is free to join in the fun! We took the leap just before our season opener this year and have had such fun with this new social media sharing site. We have created a few boards that highlight some of the great things that is Clayoquot Wilderness Resort but the great thing about Pinterest is the ‘dream’ affect that it brings. The ever wanting ‘bucket list’ of places to go and things that you want.

We are part of a board called “Places to Visit Before You Die” and there are some amazing places on their to consider. Over 11,000 pins are on this board and growing everyday!

Find loads of interesting tidbits about the resort; from animals in the wilderness to different types of activities in the wilderness you can do here. Everything including ideas of what to wear in the wilderness!

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, do it. It’s a fun addictive website!Follow Me on Pinterest

We get a lot of people that like to write about us and we are always super thrilled to see the articles. It was a great treat to see this article by WhereCanada and our inclusion on their article about “12 of Canada’s Most Unusual Hotels“. While we have been labeled “glamping” we will take the unusual as well!

Cheers to all the writers out there!

Great wildlife viewing

While the weather is still breathtaking out here in the temperate rainforest, September has been known to be a quieter month for us at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. With all the kids back in school, we find this is the perfect time to reconnect with that someone special for a quiet getaway to the wilderness.

Take normally great September weather and a pinch of amazing wildlife viewing with a dash of luxury and you have got yourself a trip worth having!

Your lift to another world

We have teamed up with Atleo River Air Service to bring you this amazing activity here in the wilderness. Imagine lifting off from the resort for a scenic tour of Clayoquot Sound or landing on a remote glacier to hike under the summer sun!

The possibilities are endless!

How about some heli-fishing?

You will take off right from the resort and land at one of our surrounding lakes or rivers for a day of fly fishing for Steelhead or Rainbow Trout. The day will be spent with one of our knowledgeable guides that will either assist you in learning more about fishing or just be there to fish with you!

The view from the top of the Urses Valley to the Pacific Ocean!

Ask your Activities Director about this unique and amazing activity and take full advantage of our beautiful wilderness that surrounds us.

There really is nothing quite like the sun shining, kids playing, the water sparkling and laughter all around from a full house of guests!

We had another check in/check out yesterday that said good-bye to yet another great group of guests and great big welcome to our new guests. We are super happy to being saying hello to a few familiar faces this month! It is said that once you have stayed here with us at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, you become part of the family. There is nothing truer than that statement! Of all the years that Adele and John Caton have been managing the resort, they have this uncanny knack and a soft spot for remembering who people are and they have instilled this into their staff. We all love getting to know our guests and helping them in what ever capacity we can - whether that be guiding, serving something yummy in the cookhouse or a quick hello on the boardwalk!

With summer in full swing, we are more than happy to have all of our guests here, from new to return and look forward to a great month of August!

Thumbs up to an amazing time at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort!

While this is a hot topic right now in the pacific north west, this topic is something that we all feel very strong about here at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. It has been said over and over - NO MORE FISH FARMS in Clayoquot Sound. Clayoquot is a delicate ecosystem and many do not want to disrupt the already delicate life cycle any more than it already has been.

I sat down with John Caton, Managing Director, of Clayoquot Wilderness Resort to discuss this hot topic and was pleasantly surprised to hear that we stood the same ground: It’s not that fish farms are evil or bad and that wild salmon is good, it’s a matter of open containment farming vs. closed containment farming that is the more important topic. Farms bring employment to communities on so many levels - farmers, scientists, divers, mechanics and so many more and lets not forget the worlds want for this delectable fish. If it weren’t for the farms, our wild salmon might be in the same plight as the worlds shark population! If you haven’t already watched Sharkwater, it’s a must! Although the decline of these species is for different reasons, decline from human hand remains the same.

Some points to note when considering farmed vs. wild salmon is that both fish carry disease that is detrimental to the other. With this alone, does it not make sense to have each fish protected from the other that can harm it? There are a few farms, Marine Harvest, that have caught on to this way of thinking and for that, we salute you!

Until the day comes where true sustainable farming happens with all involved, we will stand by the petitions to help the voice that stands for no more farms. We will help fight the fight for sustainable fishing practices and will always stand behind the fight for wild salmon.
